Like the internet needs another fabric flower tutorial, right? Right. On to the pictures!
A size comparison of the original circles and the finished flowers. |
A detailed tutorial is below for the interested...
Draw out your circles. You need 6 - go ahead and use a sharpie, since the edges of the flower will be totally hidden! |
Fold in half... |
Ironing them makes the outer crease a little sharper and the flower a little easier to handle, but it's not necessary. The flower will look puffier if you don't iron. |
Fold in half again... I like to fold to the middle since it gives me that little open space at the tip of the flower. |
Pressing the ends of the flowers after ironing again, to keep the petals from opening up before I sew them. |
String your petals on a doubled thread - use good stout thread, since it's going to take a lot of strain when you gather the petals. Use a running stitch. |
All six petals gathered! |
...and make a small stitch the the beginning of the first petal, and PULL! Then knot off but don't cut your string! |
On the back of your flower, stitch on a little scrap of felt to hide the thready ends. Use tiny stitches and they will almost hide themselves! |
Add your button now! If you are using a shank button, just sew it on, otherwise, I suggest adding a bit of felt to the front that is just slightly smaller than your button, to hide your messy threads on the front of the flower. |
I add a little rectangle on the back so that I can put it on a bobby pin or headband or whatever. You could glue it to a hair barrette at this point, if you like. |
