Pretty Jewelry Catch Tray

A pretty place to put your jewelry!

You need:

A small cocktail glass, such as you might find in a resale shop.  Good shapes for this project are smallish, shallow, and flared at the top or having a severe angle, like a flattened hurricane shape or a small martini glass.  You want your earrings to hang off the glass edge without bumping against the side.

A small dish with a flat center that is at least as big as the foot of the glass.  Size is your choice, I picked a green stone tart plate that is about 6" wide, also from our local thrift store.

A single use epoxy tube.  I keep these around the house anyway, they are so darn handy for those little repairs on things that don't normally take superglue very well.  They're about $4 for a package of 2.  I had the quick-set type, but you might want one with a slightly longer set time, if you are out buying for this project.  The quick set ones really do set up in about a minute, and that's less time than you want to take spreading the epoxy if you want to do a neat job (and you do!  It will show!)

Clean your pieces with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel if you have to remove dirt or adhesive from the glass or the dish.  Anything that is on the bottom of the glass will be there forever!  Take your glass and center it in the dish.  I traced the foot of the glass with a dry erase marker so that I could put it back down in the same place, since once you put it down with the epoxy on it, it's not moving!

Now pick up the glass, and around the bottom of the foot (where it will contact the dish) spread a fine bead of the epoxy.  I used a wooden skewer to transfer the epoxy from where I mixed it to the bottom of the glass.

Press the glass down in the circle that you marked.  Be careful not to cover the marks that you made, because you won't be able to wipe them away if you accidentally put the glass down ON the mark.  (Maybe it would be better the make that circle a little bigger than the foot of the glass!)

The dry erase marker just wipes away if your bottom piece is glazed

That's it!  Hang your pretty earrings off the rim of the glass, put your rings in the bowl, and necklaces and larger pieces in the dish on the bottom!

The catch tray, in it's new home on my night stand.  Great for all those odds and ends that inevitably find their way to my bedside.

Enjoy!
